Top-end work, bottom-end work or a full engine rebuild — every job receives the attention to detail it deserves. Internal engine work is what separates a careful workshop from a careless one. We take it seriously.
Based in Cranbourne — looking after motorcycle riders from across the wider region:
An engine rebuild isn't a job to rush. Every clearance has to be measured, every surface has to be clean, every bolt has to be torqued correctly. At Priesty's Motorcycle Garage in Cranbourne we approach every engine the same way: strip carefully, inspect thoroughly, replace what's required, and rebuild to spec.
We rebuild engines for riders across Cranbourne, Clyde, Berwick, Narre Warren, Pakenham, Frankston and the wider south-east Melbourne region — road, dirt, adventure and sportbikes all welcome.
Top-end work covers everything above the cases — pistons, rings, cylinder bore inspection or replacement, valve and valve seat work, valve guide replacement, head gasket and cam chain or timing components. Top-ends are often the first thing to wear, especially on high-revving sportbikes and hard-working dirt bikes.
When we open a top end we measure cylinder bore taper and out-of-round, check piston-to-wall clearance, inspect ring end gaps, check valve clearances against spec and inspect cam lobes and journals for wear. You get a clear report and a quote for any additional work before we go any further.
Bottom-end work is bigger again — splitting the cases, inspecting the crankshaft, replacing main and rod bearings, inspecting transmission gears and shift forks, replacing seals and bearings throughout. We rebuild gearboxes, fix bent shift forks, replace worn dog faces and bring tired bottom ends back to life.
Crankshafts are checked for runout, end-float and journal wear. Where required we can arrange specialist crankshaft rebuilds with new big-end and main bearings.
Frame-up restorations and complete engine rebuilds for project bikes are welcome. Whether you're bringing a tired classic back to life or building a track-only weapon, every internal job is documented with photos and clearances so you know exactly what's been done.

It depends entirely on the engine, what's worn and what level of rebuild is required. We strip and inspect first, then provide a detailed quote before any work commences.
Typically 1–2 weeks once parts are on hand. Bottom-ends and complete rebuilds usually take longer — we'll give you a realistic timeline at the quote stage.
Both — we'll discuss the trade-offs for your specific engine and use case. For high-performance and race builds we often recommend specific aftermarket components.
Yes — older Japanese, British and European engines are welcome. Parts sourcing can sometimes take longer but we'll let you know up front.
